This and That

Hi there my bloggy friends! Big news...I've just entered the 21st century by signing up for Facebook. I had resisted it for a very long time because I'm kind of eccentric that way, AND I didn't want to end up with a stalker! (Because, as I told one of my friends, I'm just so gorgeous and interesting!) I also haven't been all that sure that I want some people from my past to find me.

About two weeks ago, I got up the nerve to register on Classmates.com. It has been 26 years since I graduated from high school, and I've just been curious about some of my old pals that I had lost touch with. One of them contacted me and asked if I was on Facebook. I told her no, and she said it was too bad because it's a good way to keep up with our old friends. Then my niece had her second baby girl on Monday (welcome Megan Shea!), and my one sister emailed both my oldest sis and I to say that we should get on FB to keep in touch better. Now, I really wanted to see baby pics of Megan, so I decided to join FB and asked my niece and her hubby to be my friends so I could view any photos they've been posting. I finally saw some today! She's a cute little peanut...6 lbs., 10 ounces.

So I've been spending time this week learning the ins and outs of Facebook. One thing I've learned is that it can be quite addicting. I have to force myself not to be on it too much. If I haven't been around to visit your blog this week, FB is to blame!

I've been reading a couple of books this week as well. I'm almost done with The Life You Can Save: Acting Now to End World Poverty by Peter Singer. It's rather a complicated read, but I am getting something out of it. I so want to sponsor more children through Compassion International, but just don't have the money to do it right now. Due to the economy, the monthly donation is going up from $32 to $38 in September. I've thought about asking a friend or two if they'd like to sponsor a child with me, but I know everyone is suffering financially right now.

I also picked up this little book entitled The Simple Life: Devotional Thoughts from Amish Country by Wanda E. Brunstetter. It's a very relaxing read with thought provoking Bible based lessons and Amish recipes! While I was at the pool today, I started reading one of her fiction books, A Sister's Secret. I thought it touching that she dedicated this book to the Amish children who were killed in the schoolhouse shooting in Lancaster almost 3 years ago. "And to the victims' families, who showed the world what God's love and true forgiveness are all about."

This incident occurred the first year I was the Director at my preschool. We're only about 90 minutes from Lancaster. This really shook me up. Up until that time, our classroom doors remained closed but unlocked. I immediately told our teachers that from then on our classroom doors would be kept locked from the outside, and I sent a memo out to the parents to inform them of this. I think it was a relief to the parents.

If you haven't already, please stop by my other blog, Angel Baby, and read my post about Group B Strep. I want every pregnant mom to be aware of this infection! It's something I had when I was pregnant with my younger son. I still need to go on and post about this week's lesson from the pregnancy loss Bible study I have been doing.

May God bless each of you and help you to strive toward His goals for your life!

I Get To

On Saturday afternoon, I drove my older son to his friend's house so that they could skateboard together. On the way over, I warned him to keep an eye out for rain because the sky was looking rather ominous. As soon as I dropped Sam off, he and his friend took off on their boards. I figured they were just going to skate around the neighborhood.

About an hour later, Sam calls me to say that he and Z are at a store near Z's house and that they have t-shirts on sale. Sam wanted to know if I would take him back there on Sunday since he didn't have any money on him. I told him yes and hung up.

On their way back to Z's house, the clouds burst open and it poured! The phone rings again. "Mom, we're at Dairy Queen and I'm soaked. Can you come pick me up, take me home to change, and then take me back to Z's?" I was in the middle of something, and I think I muttered "Crap." Then I gave a big sigh and said I'd be there in a minute.

As I was driving in the downpour, I was agitated over the fact that I had to do this. Then I stopped myself and thought, "No. I get to do this." I thought about my miscarriage and about the couples who so desperately want to have children and can't. How selfish of me to be angry over a blessing that God has given to me! As annoying as it can be sometimes to play chauffeur for my children, it is actually a blessing!

I picked Sam up, took him home to change clothes and then drove him right back to Z's house. He was planning to spend the night there. Our younger son was going to a birthday party sleepover, so the hubs and I were going to have a date night!

We had just ordered some Chinese for dinner when Sam called us again. Guess what? Now I get to joyfully wait on Sam as his broken foot heals! Gotta love our little blessings!

How Appropriate!

Every year on Mother's Day, our church gives a little gift to all of the women in the congregation. This year I received a glass angel ornament. The angel is holding a heart. How perfectly appropriate for me! An angel to remind me of our Angel Baby! God is so good!

Covered in Prayer

For the past few weeks, I've been reading many different blogs and have made several new friends. Although most of you have not directly asked for prayer, I can see by reading your blogs that many of you need some prayer coverage. Yesterday my head was just spinning as I was thinking of everyone who could use a prayer over some area of their life. I decided to write down in a journal names/blog names of those that I feel need some intercession. This way I can keep it all straight. If you need prayer in a specific area, please let me know!

Now for an update on my ring. We got a call yesterday saying our rings were ready. (Eric's wedding band and my engagement ring.) Also, the jeweler had some heart shaped emeralds to show us. We went over and picked out the emerald we liked the best and a setting for it. It's very simple, but like I said before, I'm not into flashy rings. Plus, for what the ring is representing, I wanted it to be understated. It should be ready in about 7 to 10 days. Unfortunately, my engagement ring wasn't ready after all. We were only able to pick up Eric's wedding band. So I have to continue wearing my fake diamond Avon ring so that my finger doesn't feel naked!

Have a beautiful and blessed Saturday!

A Glimmer of Hope

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by a woman who had miscarried twice. I had read an article she had written, left a comment for her, and she was kind enough to contact me through email. (You can read Kristie's story here.)

She told me about a Bible study she did that is about pregnancy loss. The study is entitled Threads of Hope, Pieces of Joy by Teale Fackler & Gwen Kik. I replied, thanking her for the info and told her I would look for the book.

Kristie contacted me again and offered to get the book for me and to go through the study with me via email. What a generous offer! I decided to order the book for myself and to take Kristie up on going through the study with me.

So I ordered the book, and it arrived less than a week later. The only thing was that the company I ordered it from sent me 3 copies of the book and only charged me for 1! My first thought was, "Is this a sign that I'm supposed to do for others what Kristie is doing for me?"

I contacted the company about the mix up. They told me I could either keep the books and pay for the extra 2 copies, or I could return the extras at their expense. My husband and I decided I should just purchase the extra copies. When I explained to him what had happened, he also immediately said, "Maybe it's a sign."

Kristie and I are going to begin the Bible study in June. I'll be off work for the summer by then, and she will be starting the study at that point with some ladies from her church. So the timing will be perfect for the both of us. My plan is to go through the study this summer and then see if there are other women out there who I could lead through the study. I think God is really opening my eyes and showing me other ministries He wants me to be involved in.

For those of you who read my post on 4/25, my hubby and I didn't end up having a picnic on Saturday. The weather here was too iffy. What we did decide to do is to purchase a ring for me with an emerald in it in remembrance of the baby. Since the baby was due May 2, its birthstone would have been emerald. We visited two jewelry stores Saturday but didn't find what I have in mind. We're going to another store this afternoon to look. I'll post a photo of the ring when I finally find what I'm looking for
The photo of the flowers at the beginning of this post are from church yesterday. We sponsored this week's alter flowers in honor of our angel baby. Of course, we would have preferred a simple rose on the alter in honor of our baby's birth, but God had other plans. And from this one event in my life, I am beginning to discern His plans for me. It's not my will be done, but His will be done.
