Delight Your Children!

I am exhausted today. Wednesday is always my longest day of the week. (Oh dear, I have to work until 2:15 instead of only to 12:15!) I also have choir practice on Wednesday nights.

The theme of my lunchtime class today was "Weird Science". I decided last night that I'd have the kids make slime. What a mess my classroom was by the end of the day! There was cornstarch everywhere! The kids had a blast, however, the mommies weren't too thrilled to see slime coming home with them. I always feel badly for the kids whose parents don't let them do messy projects at home and are less than thrilled to see a messy craft come home. (Such as painting with chocolate pudding. We did that one on Wacky Day last week.) I admit that I don't always say yes to the messy things my kids want to do, but I don't always say no either. Making a mess can be fun and it can be cleaned up. It also makes memories for your kids.

I am challenging all of us to say yes to our kids once in a while even when we want to say no because we may be inconvenienced or left with a mess. Keep in mind how we feel when God gives us a big YES to something we were sure He'd say no to. I am sure it gives Him pleasure to see the delight in our eyes. Wouldn't you like to see that same delight in the eyes of your own children?

Busy, Busy

I probably won't be posting today. It's the end of the month, and I need to change over my classroom and make purple playdough. Easter is in less than 2 weeks! I couldn't believe that I was already sharing the Easter story with my students yesterday!

Funny Things and Meanderings

Preschool Funnies.......Today one of my students told her friend, "You'll be my best friend forever." The other little girl replied, "Well, I didn't see that coming." One of my little boys came into today wearing a baseball hat and wouldn't take it off. He had decided to cut his own hair, so his dad made him get a buzz cut. At least he hadn't cut the hair of either of his sisters! Another one of my little boys came up to me the other day and said, "Mrs. J I'm wearing boxers today!" Then one of the other boys told me, "I'm not wearing boxers today, but I do have some!" Yes, my job is a daily adventure with lots of smiles!

For about a year and a half now, I've been sponsoring a child through Compassion International. His name is Paulo, he's 12-years-old and lives in Brazil. I chose a boy around the same age as my sons because I figured I could relate better. This experience has been wonderful and I think of Paulo as my third son. His first letter to me arrived on my birthday in 2007. That made my day. In his most recent letter to me, Paulo wrote, "...I want you to know that all the letters you send me and also the pictures are kept in a box. I love you. Millions kisses." That just melted my heart. With the way the economy is right now, I'm trying to cut back in other areas so that I don't have to end my sponsorship of Paulo. In addition to the monthly sponsorship, you can send money for a birthday gift and for Christmas. You can also provide money for a family gift. I've been able to do the birthday and Christmas donations, but I would love more than anything to be able to provide a family gift. I'm trying to think of a way to earn some extra cash to do this. Getting an additional job outside the home just isn't feasible. I like being home when my sons get home from school each day and being able to spend time with them. If anyone has any ideas about this, please let me know or just pray for me regarding this!

Tonight we have to go to a meeting being held for all parents of 8th grade students. It's supposed to be an informational meeting about high school. Yes, my oldest will be in high school next year. How did that happen? It's hard to believe that we really only have him for another four years. There's so much I still want to teach him and instill upon him. My youngest will be in middle school next year. No more elementary school for us! I know I just have to put them both in God's hands.

Does God Care? Part 2

Just to let ya'll know, I made it! I stayed awake long enough last night to put that load of laundry in the dryer, so I had clean undies for church this morning! I know everyone was just dying to know this!

Every summer we go to the Outer Banks with my husband's college roommate and his family. Johnny and I have the same dumb sense of humor that just makes people shake their heads. This morning my husband said that when we go to the beach this year, he's going to hold an intervention for Johnny and I!

Does God Care?

I had just shut off my computer for the night and was about to go snuggle down in my bed with a book. We have church tomorrow, so we'll have to get up early. Then I realized that the 2 loads of laundry I did today didn't include any underwear. I have no clean skivvies for tomorrow! I then thought, "Does God care if I wear dirty underwear to church?" After a debate with myself, I decided that no, He wouldn't care, but I certainly would! So I headed to my laundry room and threw in a load of wash. Now I have to stay awake long enough to get it into the dryer.

If I fall asleep before the washer is done and then forget to throw the load into the dryer first thing in the morning, it'll be dirty underwear for me! If this happens, I'll let you all know if God cares! (Perhaps I shouldn't sit too close to anyone else in the pew in the event that I'm struck with a lightening bolt!)
