Frugal Friday

My son's birthday was this week, and he received a rather large Nerf gun from his younger brother. As usual, this toy was secured in its packaging as if it was as valuable as the gold at Fort Knox! There were many thick wire twist ties of various sizes keeping the gun tightly held in its box. After my son patiently worked the toy out of the box, I gathered up all the twist ties and stored them away. They'll be perfect to use this summer when we need to stake our tomatoes and any other plants. I'm sure I'll find other uses for them as well. You never know what odds and ends may be needed for science projects and crafts!

Another thing I save is the wax paper bag that comes in a cereal box. I wash it out and either reuse it as a storage bag or cut it so I can lay it out flat when I am baking and need to roll out some dough. I also save the cardboard tubes from paper towels and rolls of toilet paper for craft projects. When I began saving the bags from cereal boxes, I decided to use a paper towel tube to store them neatly. You can either roll the bags and stick them inside the tube or roll them around the tube and secure with a rubber band.
