My Little Light

I wrote this ten or eleven years ago as I was watching my oldest son sleep. The last line really hits home with me now that he will be starting high school in less than 2 weeks!

MY LITTLE LIGHT

My little light is sleeping,
Extinguished for the night.
Sucking on his blanket,
His “Chipper” gathered tight.

My little light has faded,
Though in dreamland he may play.
Running, jumping, shouting,
As he does throughout his day.

My little light is dim now,
His breathing slow and deep.
If I had a camera,
His tranquility I would keep.

My little light just flickered,
He gave a quiet sigh.
I smile in my contentment,
Oh, too soon our days go by!

"Oh, too soon our days go by!" All moms will tear up at that one! Too soon indeed.

A really special poem, Leslie

Oh, so sweet.... We need to know that contentment again. (Because even though they're bigger, and slop up their covers, they still sleep about the same as way back when.)

How quickly the days fly by! I have a granddaughter that is almost 7! I realize just how swift life is.

Great poem!

Leslie,

What a beautiful poem about just how fast all that time goes. Children are just that much cuter when you catch them in dreamland. Just at such peace.
